Please note that many colored gemstones are treated to enhance their appearance and durability. Common treatments include heat, irradiation, oiling, or filling. Heat treatment is often applied to rubies and sapphires to improve color and clarity, while oiling is commonly used to enhance the clarity of emeralds. These treatments are widely recognized and accepted in the international jewelry trade.

While heat-treated gemstones are generally considered permanent, some treatments, such as oiling, may require periodic maintenance to maintain optimal appearance. For example, oiled emeralds may need re-oiling over time.

RJP Gems does not provide gemological reports for every gemstone offered. Buyers should assume that most gemstones may have undergone some form of enhancement. Laboratory reports are available upon request for most uncertified items, subject to prepayment. U.S.-based gemological laboratories typically disclose heat treatment or other enhancements. European laboratories may report heat treatment only if specifically requested but will confirm if no treatment has been applied. Scientific methods continue to evolve, and there may be differences of opinion among laboratories regarding treatment, extent, or permanence.
